Business Gateway childcare programme

Business Gateway are offering webinars and 1:1 sessions. These are now live and available to book via the website:

https://www.bgateway.com/our-services/childcare-and-childminding-business-support

These sessions are free and have been arranged across a range of times – including evenings and weekends – to make it as accessible as possible for people to attend.

New SOSCN Blog

The UK Government Department for Education published a report in November 2022 which has raised serious concerns about the safety and wellbeing of the millions of children in England. Read Irene Audain, SOSCN Chief Executive’s blog on the issues here:

Getting it Right for Business- do you have the right structure for your organisation?

Thursday 2nd February 2023, 10am - 12pm

Online ZOOM session - £6

Book a place: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/getting-it-right-for-business-tickets-482990887747

From time to time we are asked for further information about the different business structure options for school age childcare- there are a number to choose from, so which is best for your organisation? Why be a charitable/not-for-profit organisation rather than a private one, or vice versa? What level of financial protection or protection to board members/trustees do each of the structures offer? It can be difficult to know what is best or even if it is worth changing structure, so in this session you will hear directly from an experienced business advisor as well as real-life experience from services. Please note that if you operate as an Unincorporated Organisation, we strongly recommend you attend this session, as this is not a recommended business structure for school age childcare.

Speaker Colin McNally, Accountant and Business Advisor, will provide an overview of the different types of possible business structures: Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO); partnership; Community Interest Company (CiC), and Company Ltd by Guarantee, private or charitable. This will then be followed by a discussion with services which operate using these different structures: KLAS Care CiC, Big Voices OSC, The Saturday Cafe, and Kids Insight.

SOSCN Football Coaching - Summer 2023

Thinking ahead to summer programme? SOSCN will be offering football coaching during the summer holidays.

The session will develop children’s knowledge of the game as well as developing skills in and outside of football and will be an ideal opportunity for children to form friendships, keep fit and have fun playing football. Children will be introduced to football skills such as passing, dribbling and shooting as well as having the opportunities to play small sided games at the end. Services must have suitable space in which to deliver the session, this does not have to be a football pitch but would need to be a decent sized gym hall or outdoor space. All equipment will be supplied by the SOSCN and staff must be present at all times. Although not essential, it is preferrable that children taking part are ages 8 and over.

Sessions will last approximately 2 hours and will cost £100, however some travel costs may be additionally charged. If you are interested in booking a session, please complete the form at the link below. This will not guarantee you a booking but will note your interest in the sessions.
