In general SOSCN advocates a promoting positive behaviour approach which ensures children receive attention for good behaviour and, following the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the services rules are developed in consultation with the children themselves. Staff should model positive behaviour themselves by the way in which they treat each other, children, parents and visitors with care and respect. There should be zero tolerance of any type of aggressive, demeaning behaviour towards anyone else or any type of physical chastisement. These rules should apply to anyone in contact with the service and that includes parents and carers when in touch with the service, or when picking up their children.

Sometimes behaviour rules are called “The Golden Rules” and they should be reviewed annually by children since there is always a different group of children each year.
